TULSA, Okla. - A 24-year-old Tulsa man has been indicted on multiple federal charges accusing him of sexually assaulting and strangling women, threatening victims and using a firearm during one of the attacks.

The FBI is now trying to identify additional potential victims of Deleon Milford Cooks, saying investigators believe he primarily targeted women between 2023 and 2026.

Cooks, a member of the Cherokee Nation, is being held pending trial.

A federal indictment charges Cooks with two counts of aggravated sexual abuse by force and threat in Indian Country, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country and two counts of assault of an intimate or dating partner by strangling in Indian Country.

He is also charged with carrying, using and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and sexual abuse without consent in Indian Country.

According to federal court documents, Cooks is accused of forcing two women to engage in sexual activity by placing them in fear of death, serious bodily injury or kidnapping.

Prosecutors also accuse Cooks of assaulting both women with a dangerous weapon and strangling both victims. The indictment alleges he brandished a firearm during a crime of violence and engaged in a sexual act with one of the women without her consent.

The FBI has taken the unusual step of publicly seeking other people who may have encountered Cooks. Investigators said they believe he primarily targeted women over a period spanning approximately three years.
