EDMOND, Okla. - Two former employees of an Edmond technology company have been charged with embezzlement after investigators said they used more than $1.3 million in company funds for personal expenses, including private jet travel, luxury vehicles and purchases from Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
Cory Brown, 48, and Matthew Burleson, 41, turned themselves in to the Midwest City Police Department Jail on Sept. 10 after warrants were issued for their arrests, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Brown served as president of Summit Technologies in Edmond from 1997 until 2022. Burleson worked in the company's human resources department from 2006 until 2022.
The investigation began after the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office asked OSBI to investigate allegations of embezzlement in October 2024.
According to OSBI, investigators determined Brown and Burleson used their positions at the company to increase their own compensation and pay personally owned credit card accounts using company funds.
Both men were also issued corporate credit cards that investigators say they used for personal expenses.
OSBI said the spending included private jet travel, down payments on luxury vehicles and large purchases from Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
Investigators determined that Brown and Burleson spent more than $1.3 million in company funds on personal expenses, according to OSBI.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, the Oklahoma County District Court issued arrest warrants for both men on Sept. 3.
Brown and Burleson surrendered a week later and were booked on embezzlement charges.
