TULSA, Okla. - Two New York men are facing federal drug charges after a Tulsa County traffic stop led deputies to approximately 50 pounds of cocaine and bundles of cash inside a rental van, according to court documents.
Rohan Oriley Roye, 34, of New York City, and Andrew Joseph Hudson, 36, of New Rochelle, New York, were arrested Sept. 15. Both are charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
According to court documents, a Tulsa County Sheriff's Office deputy stopped the rental van after observing it failing to maintain its lane.
Roye, who was driving, identified himself and provided the deputy with a New York driver's license. While speaking with Roye, the deputy noticed another man lying on a mattress in the rear of the van. That man was later identified as Hudson.
During the stop, a Tulsa Police Department K-9 conducted an open-air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle and alerted its handler several times, according to court documents.
Deputies searched the van and found a large duffel bag that Hudson had been using as a pillow. Inside were six tightly wrapped bricks that investigators said were packaged in a manner consistent with narcotics trafficking.
Deputies also discovered bundles of cash secured with rubber bands and contacted the Drug Enforcement Administration.
A field test of the seized substance returned a positive result for cocaine hydrochloride, according to court documents. Authorities said the packages weighed approximately 50 pounds and estimated the cocaine could have a street value of up to $650,000.
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office investigated the case with assistance from the Tulsa Police Department and the DEA's Tulsa Resident Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Nasar is prosecuting the case.
