OKLAHOMA CITY -
A federal judge has sentenced an Oklahoma City man to more than 11 years in prison after prosecutors said he illegally possessed a firearm following multiple prior felony convictions.
According to the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Oklahoma, 32-year-old Chanse Treyvon Burge was sentenced to 137 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court records show officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department responded March 18, 2025, to an armed robbery at an apartment in the Oklahoma City metro area.
Investigators said three people forced their way into the apartment after knocking on the door. Prosecutors said Burge held a gun to the victim’s head while two other suspects searched the residence.
Authorities said Burge threatened to shoot the victim and repeatedly struck her in the head with the firearm before the suspects fled.
Police later arrested Burge inside a vehicle at a nearby hotel, where officers recovered a firearm.
A federal grand jury indicted Burge on May 6, 2025, and he later pleaded guilty Sept. 26, 2025, admitting he possessed a firearm despite his felony record.
During sentencing on May 18, 2026, Patrick R. Wyrick ordered Burge to serve 137 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
According to prosecutors, Judge Wyrick cited the need to protect the public from further crimes.
Federal authorities said Burge has multiple prior felony convictions, including cases involving possession of a stolen vehicle, firearm possession after juvenile adjudication, possession of firearms during probation, and previous felon-in-possession charges.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and the Oklahoma City Police Department.
Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laney Ellis prosecuted the case.
