Tulsa Felon Sentenced to Nearly Six Years for Strangling Wife and Pistol-Whipping Her

Rodney Neal Stach

TULSA, Oklahoma - A Tulsa man with multiple prior felony convictions has been sentenced to federal prison after admitting to strangling his wife and possessing a loaded firearm, federal prosecutors announced.

According to the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma, 45-year-old Rodney Neal Stach was sentenced by Joseph N. Laplante to 70 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Stach was convicted of assault of a spouse by strangling and attempting to strangle in Indian Country, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Prosecutors said the incident occurred in August 2025 after officers with the Tulsa Police Department responded to a home in east Tulsa.

According to court records, the victim told officers Stach became extremely angry, grabbed a loaded firearm, and struck her repeatedly with the weapon.

While assaulting her, prosecutors said Stach threatened to shoot the victim, telling her, “I should shoot you right now. No one will find you.”

The victim also reported that Stach strangled her before she escaped and ran to a neighbor’s home for help.

Federal prosecutors said Stach had eight prior felony convictions before the incident, including convictions involving burglary, resisting arrest, fleeing law enforcement, and maliciously torturing and killing a pig.

Authorities said the victim is a tribal citizen, giving the case federal jurisdiction in Indian Country.

Stach will remain in custody pending transfer to the United States Bureau of Prisons.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and the Tulsa Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Kelly prosecuted the case.
