EL RENO, Okla. - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man in critical condition Tuesday afternoon in El Reno.

According to the OSBI, the Canadian County Sheriff's Office requested the agency to investigate the shooting after it occurred on July 14.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., a Canadian County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near East London Street and South Williams Avenue after receiving reports of a possible threat.

Authorities said the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a short pursuit.

The pursuit ended when the driver, identified only as an adult male, pulled into a residence near East Russell Street and South Williams Avenue.

According to investigators, the man exited the vehicle while brandishing a firearm.

The deputy gave the man verbal commands, but officials said he did not comply. The encounter ended with the deputy firing his weapon.

The man was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

No deputies or other individuals were injured during the incident.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation. Once completed, the findings will be submitted to the Canadian County District Attorney's Office for review.

The OSBI thanked the Canadian County Sheriff's Office and the El Reno Police Department for assisting with the investigation.
