FORT TOWSON, Okla. - A Pushmataha County Sheriff's deputy shot a man Sunday afternoon after authorities said he advanced toward the deputy with a knife following an assault call at a Fort Towson residence.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which occurred on July 26 at approximately 4:15 p.m.

According to the OSBI, a Pushmataha County Sheriff's deputy responded to a residence in the 436700 block of East 1955 Road in Fort Towson after receiving a report of an assault.

When the deputy arrived, investigators said 34-year-old Parker Taylor began throwing rocks at the patrol vehicle, shattering the front windshield.

Authorities said Taylor then brandished a knife and walked toward the deputy.

The deputy repeatedly ordered Taylor to drop the weapon, but he did not comply, according to investigators. The encounter ended when the deputy fired his weapon, striking Taylor.

Taylor received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

No deputies or other individuals were injured during the incident.

At the request of the Pushmataha County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting.

Once the investigation is complete, the OSBI will submit its findings to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma for review.

The investigation remains ongoing.
