TULSA, Okla. - A Tulsa man was arrested Monday afternoon after multiple residents reported seeing him remove mail from neighborhood mailboxes and scatter it in the street, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 to reports of a suspicious man taking mail from mailboxes near East 15th Street and South 96th East Avenue.

According to investigators, the first victim was inside his home when he saw 33-year-old Tyler Pitt walk to his mailbox, remove the mail and begin looking through it.

The victim told police Pitt discarded the mail in the street before walking to a neighboring home and repeating the same behavior.

Residents reported that Pitt continued going door-to-door and removing mail from multiple mailboxes as they followed him and called 911.

Responding officers arrived as Pitt realized residents were following him. Officers ordered him to stop and took him into custody without incident.

Pitt was booked into the Tulsa County Jail on two counts of porch piracy.

The investigation remains ongoing.
