TULSA, Okla. A 29-year-old man was arrested on a DUI charge after Tulsa Police say he lost control of a Toyota 4Runner and triggered a chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles that sent two people to the hospital.

Tulsa Police officers responded around 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 1 to an injury collision near Reconciliation Way and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found six vehicles involved in the crash, including several that had been legally parked and were unoccupied.

Police identified the driver accused of causing the collision as Brandon Hohengarten, 29. He was still sitting inside his Toyota 4Runner when officers arrived and exhibited what police described as obvious signs of intoxication.

Police Say SUV Struck Multiple Vehicles

According to the preliminary investigation, Hohengarten was attempting to turn left onto Reconciliation Way when he lost control of the 4Runner.

The SUV struck the first victim's vehicle with enough force to push it into two other vehicles parked along the curb.

Police said the 4Runner then bounced away from the initial collision and struck a Chevrolet Blazer traveling in the opposite direction.

Hohengarten's vehicle continued moving and sideswiped another victim's vehicle before finally coming to a stop. Police said the 4Runner stopped only inches away from involving another vehicle in the crash.

Two people were transported to a hospital for treatment. Police did not provide additional information about the extent of their injuries.

Driver Allegedly Said He Left His Shoes at a Bar

When officers asked Hohengarten whether he had been drinking, police said he denied consuming alcohol.

Officers, however, reported finding an empty BuzzBallz container in the center console of his vehicle.

Police also noticed Hohengarten was not wearing shoes and asked him where they were.

According to police, Hohengarten responded that he had left his shoes at the bar.

Officers attempted to administer field sobriety tests, but police said Hohengarten's inability to stand prevented him from completing the testing.

He subsequently refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Hohengarten was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail on charges of DUI Resulting in Injury Accident, Transporting an Open Container and Failure to Carry Insurance Verification.
